HMS Kittiwake - Royal Navy Coastal Corvette WWII
A new model has been started - again 1:48 scale based on a Sirmar semi-kit. There will be more info as work progresses.
Kittiwake was one of the Kingfisher class of Coast Corvettes built for the Admiralty from 1935 to 1939.
With their raised forecastle, and their short funnel, they looked like small destroyers rather than Escort sloops, but their size limited their radius of action and they were used on the North Sea escort routes, based at Harwich.
HMS Kittiwake (Cdr. E.R. Conder, RN) was damaged on 20th September 1939 by a mine laid on 10 September by the German submarine U26 near the Shambles Light vessel. Five of the crew were killed. The ship was under repair at Sheerness until 18 January 1941
